We have been talking about divine purpose lately, what it is, and how you discover yours, and now we’re going to talk about how to live it out. I’m not going into depth with each because that is what I’ll be doing for the rest of the year, going into depth about each of the topics discussed here, even topics that need to be addressed as the Lord directs me.
Clean Up Your Life
When it comes to wanting to be used by God and living out your purpose, you must live a righteous life! I Peter 1:16 says, “because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” So, we have to model after the life of Jesus and live holy. Some people think of this as impossible, but it’s not! It’s possible because God’s Spirit lives in us, and 1 Peter 2:24 says that Jesus “bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed.” Jesus died bearing our sins so we can live righteously!
You have the power to live over sin and be righteous unto God! So don’t doubt yourself; God lives in you! This will be the first topic I cover as we dive into living out our Godly purpose, so stay tuned! We’ll learn what righteousness is and how to live it out so we can please God!
Change Your Mindset
You know God wants you to think big! Hebrews 11:6 says, “But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” So, when you ask God for small things, that is not using faith. Think of it this way, when you think and ask for small from God, it’s like saying, “If God doesn’t handle it, I can” But faith is asking God and believing Him for the things we can’t do in our ability. So, to live out your purpose, you must start thinking big! If you’re having trouble with this, ask God what you should ask for and seek from Him, His answers will surprise you!
Additionally, we must have the mind of Christ; this allows us to be God-led and make Godly decisions. Also, it helps us have a better outlook on life and look at it through the lenses of faith and not fear. Being Christ-minded means thinking as Jesus did, and I will go into depth with this as the year progresses. Think like Jesus, and nothing will be able to stop you from reaching your destiny!
Changing our mindset to think bigger and be more like Christ means changing how we speak! Luke 6:45 says, “For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” So we must be mindful of what is in our hearts; what do we consume? Because that cultivates our mindset, your words will show people what kind of mindset you have. Changing what you think about is important because it affects your words, and your words affect your life, so it is crucial to have a Christ mindset!
Fill Your Spirit
You CANNOT skip this step if you want to live out your purpose; you’ll never have the spiritual strength to do so. You need God on your side and His power in you, so here are some steps to gain spiritual strength to complete your purpose!
You must pray more! When it comes to your purpose, you cannot neglect talking to God! This is how you’ll receive personal instruction about what to do and how to be successful, so DO NOT take this step lightly. God loves to talk to us and is ready to give us answers!
Another way you will receive instruction is by reading the Bible more! I could even read more and spend more time; we all can! There’s never ‘too much Bible’; there are always new ways to see the scriptures and new revelations God will give you. By reading the Word, you are literally reading God’s will; when you know God’s will for your life and your authority, you will be unstoppable!
Engaging with teaching and preaching is a great way to build your spirit. Some amazing men and women of God have accomplished great things for the Lord. I suggest listening to them, learning what they did to grow, and seeing how you can incorporate that into your own life. Additionally, find any way to listen to God’s Word, whether it be hearing the Bible out loud, listening to preaching or teaching, or hearing an anointed song; get some God in your life EVERY DAY. We must stay vigilant and ready as Christians, and if you want to accomplish your God-given purpose, you must keep your spirit strong.
Partner With God
Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” We are to go to God about everything! He is our partner in life, and we are not supposed to do it without Him! When it comes to your purpose, ask Him what is needed to fulfill your purpose. You can do this through prayer, and while you’re at it, ask Him for all the resources needed. Your purpose is going to require more than just you. You may need a team of people, finances, buildings, etc. As you think big about your purpose, you will need more resources.
Fasting and praying are essential to do when living out your purpose. This has many benefits because as you refrain from eating, you can hear God’s voice more. Also, you are pressing into God’s presence more than usual and, as a result, can gain revelation about your purpose and life. I always fast and pray when I need answers, and God gives them quite quickly! You also receive blessings when you fast and pray, so I highly recommend taking that time to consecrate yourself to God.
With fasting and praying, it is easier to be God-led. With everything I mentioned before, the main thing about partnering with God is so that you can be God-led. So He can tell you what to do, but what is essential is that you have an open Spirit to God directing you. Let go of pride and control, it is your life, but you must live it HIS way, not yours. God gave us this life to give Him glory, so let go of all self-ambitions, desires to be known, your name to be big, and pride. We are to desire for Jesus’s name to be big so that souls can be saved. We must let go of control of our life and let God have His way. So be humble and yield to God, and it’ll make partnering with Good 100x easier.
Have Godly Friends
Psalm 1:1 says, “Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;” It is a blessing to surround yourself with Godly people and a curse to do the opposite. Why? Because the more you surround yourself with sinners, the more you can get pulled away from God. Sometimes we think our spirit is strong enough to be around sinners in hopes we can change them, but that’s not true. Bad company corrupt good morals. In Jesus’s everyday life, He was surrounded by the disciples, righteous men. He may have interacted with sinners, but they were not the people He constantly traveled with or spent the most time with. I’ve heard plenty of times that you become like the five people you hang around most. So, think about who your friends are. Do they honor God? Do they encourage you to sin? Or do they encourage righteous living?
I know it’s hard, I’m in a situation where I don’t have any Holy-ghost-filled Christian friends, and lately, I’ve been pulling away from my current friends. I honestly am alone most times or with my sisters, who are Christians. So, you sometimes have to separate yourself to get where God wants you to be. I’m still praying for Godly friends, and you should too! God will send them! They will help build your faith and encourage you to have a stronger relationship with Christ which is pivotal to your purpose.
Get in the Presence of God
It is crucial to put importance on getting in the presence of God. This could be where you meet those Godly friends I was talking about ;). So, you must go to church; being around other Christians and experiencing God’s glory collectively is vital. Hebrews 10:25 says to “not [forsake] the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” This means we should not neglect to gather together as Christians as Jesus’s return approaches. We are in the last minutes, even seconds of the last days, so it is more important than ever to be together as Christians. And this is done on Sundays morning, honoring God at the beginning of the week! I know, personally, that going to church builds my spirit and my faith, and I leave stronger than I came. Here, you can meet wonderful people who love God, and there’s nothing like worshipping with the body of Christ! Find a Holy-Ghost-filled church near you and start attending; as you honor God, God will honor you!
Don’t Waste Time
This is something I still have to work on! Sometimes and most of the time, sleep gets me because I barely get sleep during the week. But that extra time I get to sleep, I could spend doing more for God. So, we are working on getting that schedule together! It is important to guard your time because God has so much for us to do! To fulfill my purpose, I have to be doing something productive all hours of the day; nothing should be wasted. The time you spend on social media or laying in bed doing nothing could be used to cultivate your gifts. This is important because your talents are most likely tied to your purpose, so the more you practice them, the closer you are to fulfil your calling!
Also, be intentional with your time. Idle time is dangerous; we could be spending that time digging deeper into The Word, cultivating gifts, praying, praising, and bringing us closer to our God-given destiny. I know it can be difficult, but God needs to see a certain level of dedication from you. Why? So that He can bless you for your efforts and elevate and promote you! It pays off to work hard for God! This doesn’t mean we can’t rest, but we shouldn’t waste our time. God will give you rest when you need it.
Additionally, don’t get distracted! Satan tries to throw a lot of things in our faces when we are chasing after God. For instance, the devil wanted to throw some boy drama in my face while I was fasting! he wanted me to be concerned about a friend who liked me that I didn’t like back while I was pressing into God, and not going to lie, it worked for a little bit, but I reeled myself back in. I told myself this was a time for God, not for drama or dating, but for GOD. So I refocused and did what I had to for the Lord. Right now, I’m not concerned about dating, but rather praying for my husband and asking God for a sign for when he comes, so I don’t accidentally curve him because I’m God-focused. Your distractions might not be the same as mine; the devil knows what will grab your attention, so be vigilant and sober-minded so you can be strong enough to withstand the temptation. The devil wants to pull away from God, but you must stand firm; it is essential for your purpose!
Believe in Your Authority
Luke 10:19 says, “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” We have the same authority Jesus has! That is a hard concept for some Christians, but we have all the power that Jesus has! Because His Spirit lives in us! So, once you have that revelation and live it out, you can live out your purpose. The enemy will come against you when you’re after your purpose, but you must know that God’s power that lives in you is stronger than anything!
Be Grateful and Thankful!
Nehemiah 8:10 says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength” We are at our strongest when we are in joy! You cannot accomplish what God wants you to if you are depressed or ungrateful. So, go to God about whatever is weighing you down emotionally and spiritually! Pray and seek His face so He can give direction on how to enter into joy and thankfulness! Additionally, don’t complain! It can backfire and take us out of the will of God because complaining takes us out of His presence. And to stay grateful and thankful, you can’t complain; thankfulness keeps you in remembrance of the goodness of God.
I hope you guys enjoyed this post, and I will get more in-depth with each topic as the year progresses. This was just a preview of what will be discussed on the blog throughout the year, and we are starting with righteousness! So stay tuned for next week! I hope this helped, and God bless!
