It is the Christmas season, and while sometimes we can get distracted by the gifts, Christmas productions, and overall craziness of the holidays, let’s remember the reason for the season: Jesus! Sometimes, it’s beneficial just to sit back and meditate on why this Christmas season is so important. Though the world makes Christmas very secular, we as Christians must ground ourselves and realize that without Jesus’s birth, our faith is null. So, let’s get into this series, The Messiah Is Coming, because the birth of Jesus was no random event but thought and planned out since the beginning of time.
He will Crush Your Head

In the beginning, a garden flourished with pristine beauty, and Adam and Eve walked in perfect communion with their Creator. However, as the serpent whispered deceit, humanity’s fall became inevitable, ushering in a world tainted by sin and separating man from God. But God never intended for us to live in the world we do now or separate from Him; His plan was for us to live in the glory of The Garden of Eden. God never wanted to be separate from man, but sin and God do not mix. From this point, God realized that to get man back to His proper place, in fellowship with Him, He needed to send a Savior. God loves us so much that the moment we became separate from Him, He had a plan to restore us to Him.
In Genesis 3:15, we see the first indirect mention of Jesus, as God says to the serpent, “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.” God, at that moment, let satan know that because you separated My creation from Me, you will pay, and you will be defeated. The funny thing about satan is he always thinks he has the victory at the moment, but God makes it known that in the end, He has the true victory, and nothing can stop it.
Now, let’s break this verse down just a bit more because I’m sure this is one of those verses you have heard but don’t know what it means. So, “enmity between you and woman, and between your seed and her Seed,” means there is enmity, obviously, between Jesus and Satan; they are directly opposed to each other, but also, anyone who is of Christ, like you and me. We are directly opposed to Satan, as we should be, but what does “your seed” mean when God is talking to the devil? Well, that means anyone who follows or believes the lies of satan, we are directly opposed to those people, and they are directly opposed to us. We have beef if you must, but in all seriousness, it is a battle between good and evil, constant fighting to push one’s agenda. That’s why oftentimes, when people preach the Gospel in public settings, you may see people trying to be distracting and disruptive, or a post about Jesus goes viral, and the comments are just hateful. Nonetheless, from the beginning of time, God declared us the winners in this battle as He said, “He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel.”
Some versions say crush your head or strike your head, but it is the ultimate defeat of satan. God promised the devil that Jesus would utterly overcome and defeat him and leave him eternally destroyed. That’s why, as Christians, we don’t have to accept anything the enemy throws at us because Christ destroyed him at the resurrection and gave us power through the Holy Spirit, but I’m a couple of months ahead of myself. The devil will only inflict temporary suffering on Jesus (The Cross), but it is Jesus who wins in the end.
This prophecy is the start of satan’s fear of a messiah being born, and it is why we see throughout the Bible satan trying to prevent the coming of Jesus Christ. So, during this series, leading up to Christmas, I will write about some of the Old Testament prophecies, and mentions of Jesus in the Bible before His birth and the types of Christ that foreshadow the redemption Christ offered us. Be blessed, and see you next time!
