If you feel you can have more passion and dedication to God, here is a guide on how to be on fire for God! It’s essential to keep the fire burning because that is how we will be successful!

Remind Yourself Why

We can only be passionate about something if there is a core reason why we do it. So, you must remind yourself, “Why do I serve God?” “Why did I give my life to Christ?”, “Why do I love God?” These are great questions to ask and to remind yourself why living for God is important. For me, I serve God because I care about people’s eternity, especially those I know personally, and I want people to know and see the goodness of God. So, take some time today to answer those questions; why is God important to you? This will help you stay true to your faith and fuel your fire for God. When I realize how lost people are in the world, it makes me want to give it my all to spread the gospel, so I constantly remind myself that people are going to hell, but God has given me gifts and talents I can use to share the gospel and get people to heaven. Put yourself in that mindset, and I promise it’ll be hard to put out that flame.

Get in the Word

The number one thing that will fuel this fire is knowing the Word of God. You cannot be passionate about God if you don’t know Him, and you get to know Him through reading your Bible! In the Bible, you see God and His relationship with humanity; you see His character, power, and might, how He loved the world so much that He saved us from eternal damnation by giving us His only Son. John 1:1 says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” So, based on this verse, every time you read your Bible, you spend personal time with Jesus! And what better way to keep the flame going than spending time with Jesus Himself? That’s why when you see backslidden Christians or unbelievers in general, what is the number one thing they lack? Time spent in the Word, personal time with Jesus. Through God’s Word, we learn His will, plan for us, promises, etc.; everything there is to know about God is in His Word!

Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The only way to grow your faith is by hearing God’s Word, so that’s reading your Bible or listening to sermons/teachings filled with the Word. If you lack time spent with God by reading the Word, you’ll lack that passion and fire. Make it part of your routine; read a chapter at night, in the morning, or both! A verse during your lunch break, listen to a sermon in the car, anything to hear God’s Word and be reminded of His goodness, and keep the flame going!

Be in Church

Hebrews 10:25 says, “[let’s] not [forsake] the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.” I notice that many people no longer see the importance of attending church, but it is more important now than ever. The Bible tells us that we should not forsake the assembling of ourselves, meaning assembling around other Christians, which would be the church! And also, we are supposed to do it more as the end times get closer and closer. Church is wonderful because it is a time to be around other believers, build our faith through the Word being preached, and to worship and praise God. It’s an environment and experience we cannot get in our everyday lives at work or school, and that’s why it’s so important. It’s a time solely dedicated to God, and that is what you need to keep the fire ablaze.

No one can be truly on fire for God if they don’t dedicate their time to Him. And that is what church is partly, devoting the first hours of our week to Jesus. Showing God you honor Him before everyone and everything as you give up your time to be emersed in His presence. Personally, I give up working nice morning shifts to go to church and opt to close instead, which is not my favorite thing to do, but I do it because I honor God. Going to church shows your respect, honor, and love for God. So, stop making excuses and find a way to attend church every Sunday. God rewards those who seek Him, so it is for your benefit. The Bible wouldn’t tell us to do it if it wouldn’t put us better off. It helps kindle that fire that we need to keep burning; without it, it will slowly burn out the more you forsake going to church.

Have Godly Friends

Having Godly friends is vital because you become like those you hang around. So, you must ask yourself, are the people you’re closest to leading you closer to God or further away? Proverbs 27:17 says, “As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” A good friend will make you good, or a Godly friend will make you more Godly. I Corinthians 15:33 says, “Bad company corrupts good morals.” So, it doesn’t matter how saved you are; if you’re never around Godly people, you will fall out of God’s will for your life. We are not to be conformed to this world but be set apart, and one of the ways you do that is by having Godly friends and not worldly friends. This is one of the reasons why being in church is important because you’re going to be around Godly people or people trying to get closer to God. Those are the people you want to be around because don’t you want to get closer to God? Having Godly friends will build your faith because you can talk to them about spiritual things and not be judged, hold them accountable, have them hold you accountable, and share faith victories!

In my own experience, when I’m stepping out in faith, my friends who are in the world think I’m crazy and simply don’t understand. But once I start talking to people who know God, they encourage me and build my faith. That is vital in this journey, and God never intended us to do it alone, so if you don’t have any Godly friends, try going to church or a small group. Having Christian friends who aren’t worldly makes living for Christ so much easier, especially when you’re young because all we see are people living worldly lives. But with Godly friends, we guard our future and do not allow our flame to be stomped out by worldly people.

Be in His Presence Regularly

James 4:8 says, “Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” The more you reach out to God, the more He’ll reach out to you, and that is a sure enough way to keep that fire kindled. We must make regular contact with God to be on fire for Him. So what does that look like? It looks like going to church, having devotion time, praying, attending services during the week, and just overall seeking God’s face. We must seek His face regularly if we wish to be used by Him because as we seek His face, we become more familiar with His voice, will, and plan for our life. This makes it harder for the enemy to deceive us because we always spend time with God. And every time you’re with God, He will put a fire in your Spirit; you’ll never burn out. This is important because as you become who God has created you to be, you will need constant refreshing not to burn out. You will need continuous grace, and God gives us that as we spend more time with Him. If doing what God created you for is important, take more time to be in His presence. For instance, I’ve been making more of an effort to be in Church conferences so that I can be immersed in His presence, and I can confidently say doing that has put a new fire in me for God.

That is just one example of getting in God’s presence more, but try to attend your church’s weekday services, watch a weekday service online, pray more, read your Bible more, and spend time giving thanks and praise. All of these invite God’s presence into your life, and the more you do that, the more your life will change, and the closer to your God-given purpose you will be. In John 15:5, Jesus says, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” You can’t do anything if you don’t have Jesus. You cannot be who He wants you to be without Him, and you can only be that if you abide in Him. Nothing on earth will satisfy us if we don’t have Jesus, and we have no spiritual power without Him. Abiding in Jesus is constantly being in His presence, being spiritually minded, and forgetting the things of the world. There is evidence when we abide in Jesus, evidence through miracles, signs, and wonders, healing, joy, peace, abundance, and more! Jesus is the key to a successful life. And if you want to have a successful life with the One who can make it possible, say this prayer.

“Dear Heavenly Father, I repent of my sins and turn my back to them. I believe Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for my sins and rose on the third day. I accept Him into my heart now. I believe Jesus is Lord, and By faith, I give Him my whole life, heart, mind, and soul. Amen!”
