Our words have great power and can determine the outcome of our lives, so here are five ways to improve your life through your words!
Don’t Gossip or Complain
Proverbs 20:19 NIV says, “A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.” Therefore, we must think, if the Bible is telling us to avoid people who gossip, why would we gossip ourselves? Through gossip, we could be spreading misinformation that negatively affects someone’s life. And we reap what we sow; every time we gossip, we are sowing bad seeds that will come back to us in return. So, if you care about your own life, don’t talk about someone else’s. Additionally, don’t complain; the more you complain, the more ungrateful you become despite how good God has been in your life!
For instance, The Israelites have seen how amazing God is; the parting of the Red Sea, getting them away from Pharaoh’s army, and overall freeing them from slavery. However, they decided to complain while in the wilderness on their way to the promised land. Numbers 11:1 NKJV says, “Now when the people complained, it displeased the Lord; for the Lord heard it, and His anger was aroused. So the fire of the Lord burned among them and consumed some in the outskirts of the camp.” Complaining angers God and, in this case, opened the door to God’s wrath. We have more grace because of Jesus, but it still does anger God; He just won’t consume you with fire. However, He will not bless you or allow you to be elevated. Have you noticed that people who tend to complain tend to stay stagnant? That’s because God can’t work with them, complaining shows a lack of faith, and God can only work where faith is.
Complaining makes you bitter and sad and also weak because Nehemiah 8:10 says, “The joy of the Lord is our strength.” So, we must be careful about what we say, think about if it uplifts our mood or drags it down. It truly matters, so be grateful and see the good in life and the goodness of God, and you’ll be better off! God rewards those who speak good things!
Don’t Use Foul Language
Ephesians 4:29 NKJV says, “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” When some people hear this verse, they think it does not include cuss words, but it definitely does. It is not often that you curse when trying to uplift someone. Usually, those words are used to tear down others. This verse tells believers to say things that inspire others and are gracious. This can be difficult because I know people can be interesting and sometimes deserve to be cussed out, but according to the Bible, we shouldn’t.
God created us to speak like Him, and He doesn’t use language like that. So when you open your mouth, think about what God would say. And that will lead you to more clean language. Additionally, not using foul language causes you to think more about your words, and it also makes people view you as more intelligent!
Don’t Talk Others Down
Galatians 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.” This verse is not only for actions but also for our words. Did you ever stop to think that your words have an effect on people? That what you say about others may start taking effect in their lives? But also, that what you say about others may come back on you? If you speak negatively about someone’s life, those things actually may manifest in your life! As Ephesians says, let our words edify others and uplift them. You are sowing bad seeds every time you speak negatively of someone, so watch what you say about people. If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it! Because it’ll count as a bad seed towards you, so either say something that is positive or nothing at all.
Speak Positively About Yourself and Your Life
Proverbs 16:24 says, “Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” If that is what good words do, what do you think bad or negative words do? People don’t realize how much their words affect their everyday life. Here, it says that your words can actually affect your health! If they can affect your health, they can affect so much more, and they do! Words set the course of your life; that’s why if someone is always speaking sickness over themselves, they are sick. Or if someone is always talking about how healthy they are, they are healthy. Your words have a direct correlation to the state of your life and your being. This is why it is vital to speak good things over yourself, so good things can take place in your life! Think about what is currently happening in your life. Now, think about what has been coming out of your mouth. Do the two correlate? Speaking positively about yourself will boost your self-esteem and overall improve your quality of life! Even if you don’t see it or believe it now, just take some time every morning to say you are blessed and loved and your life circumstances are improving!
Speak the Word of God
This is the most important one. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Speaking the Word of God can change your entire life; that is what we’re supposed to do as Christians, anyway. II Corinthians 4:13 says, “And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak,” We must believe that God’s Word is as powerful as Hebrews 4:12 says for it to take effect, and even then, even if you don’t fully believe it, grab some scriptures to repeat anyways. I promise you that after a few days of just repeatedly speaking the Word of God, something will change. Because His Word is just that powerful, take advantage of that, and speak the Word over your life! God’s Word does not return to Him void; He honors His Word. So, if something is going wrong in your life, pick up that Bible, get the appropriate scriptures, and just start speaking them. When you start speaking the Word, that brings Jesus directly into your situation because John 1:1 says the Word was God, and The Word became flesh, which is Jesus. Do not underestimate this, and start saying God’s Word; it will literally change your life!
Let’s start speaking better; about others and ourselves, have clean language, and speak the Word of God! If you take these things into practice, your life will improve! I hope this helped and God bless!
