Feel like you need more God in your daily life? Well, here are four ways to incorporate God into your routine so you can build your relationship with Him! Enjoy!
Proverbs 3:5 says, “trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths.” So, in our everyday life we must acknowledge Him so that we can be successful. Neglecting to ask God about daily direction in life is a grave mistake, and cause you to stray away from Him. Without further delay, let’s get into that routine!
1. Give Thanks in the Morning
Giving thanks to God is vital because it reminds us of the good God we serve while also keeping us humble. I Thessalonians 5:18 says, “in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” and Psalm 150:6 says, “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!” So, it’s important to give God praise and thanks, and I personally feel starting your day with thanks and praise is best. Starting our day with thanksgiving will provide us with a better outlook and attitude throughout our day! So when you wake up just say “thank you Jesus” and everything you’re grateful for! When I wake up or even when I’m in the shower at night I take the time to thank God for my day, what He has done for me, and what He is going to do. Take the time to do this and I promise you, you’ll have a much better day!
2. Get Daily Scriptures You Repeat
I know life can get hectic and we may not have the time to crack open the Bible but that doesn’t mean you have to go throughout your day without the Word. I would suggest finding three of your favorite scriptures and find a time to repeat them! You repeat them after you brush your teeth or when you drive to school or work. Say these scriptures every day to get a little more Jesus in your day! I personally have a note in my phone title Morning Declarations that I try my best to say every morning. It’s basically things that I wish to see in my life, because Job 22:28 says, “You will also declare a thing, And it will be established for you; So light will shine on your ways.” So I use my words to speak over my life, I have scriptures included in these declarations and plans to include more. For me personally, I say these in my morning when I can.
The scriptures you repeat don’t have to be anything in particular, just something that speaks to your spirit and builds your faith. One of my favorite scriptures to say throughout the day is Philippians 4:19, which says, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches and glory in Christ Jesus” I love this verse because it just reminds me that God always got me and I never lack in anything! He is always supplying love, my financial needs, direction, and guidance. So, as I repeat that scripture, it brings me peace because I know my God provides everything I need! So, get those scriptures ready and bring Jesus along with you in your day because He is the Living Word!
3. Read a Chapter When You Go to Sleep or When You Wake Up!
The time you take to scroll on social media as soon as you wake up or before you go to bed, swap that out for the Bible! I can definitely be guilty of this, scrolling through TikTok, but I could be using my time better! So, open up that Bible app and choose a book to read and spend your time in devotion with God! I can also improve with this in terms of the amount of time I spend reading. I usually read a chapter before going to bed so the last thing I engage with The Word! Lately, I’ve been reading out of Luke and II Samuel or whatever God leads me.
To start out, reading a Psalm or a Proverb before bed is great because those books are filled with wonderful knowledge and faith building scriptures! So get started on reading your Word and make your first or last consumption of the day is God! Wake up or go to sleep encouraged!
4. Say a Prayer When You Wake up or Before Going to Sleep
Saying a quick prayer before bed or when you wake up is a great way to get God into your routine. I typically always pray before sleeping, but I would also like to start doing a morning prayer so God is guiding my entire day even my sleep. The prayer doesn’t have to be long, just take five minutes before bed or in the morning to pray over your day, thank God for what you’re grateful for, and overall just talk to the Creator. God loves when we talk to Him so take some time to say heyy.
Luke 18:1 says, “Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,” So, as Christians we are to always pray, so start small with a morning or night prayer, then do both, then just begin to pray throughout the day. Prayer is how we acknowledge God in all our understanding and when He answers our prayers, that is Him directing our paths!
