Two weeks ago, I answered the question what is divine purpose? And essentially, divine purpose is God-given purpose. I defined, Biblically, that purpose is the good works Christians do while being empowered by Jesus. The good works are the things we do to spread the gospel and the good news of Jesus Christ. If that is confusing, let me give you an example. For instance, I use this blog to spread the gospel while using my gift of writing. Through this blog, I inform people about Christianity and Jesus; essentially, I spread the gospel with this blog. God created me to spread the gospel through writing, which could mean many things; I could write books, a blog, or a movie! Writing gives me tons of opportunities to spread the gospel. So, anything I do concerning writing and spreading the gospel is my “good works.” This blog is a “good work”; any books I put out will be “good works.” Good works are what I do for the Kingdom while being empowered by Jesus. This blog could not get done without Jesus’s help; I would have no real revelation to share. Without Jesus, this blog is just a blog. It’s not a place where someone can experience God, which is what I want it to be. So, I can confidently say that God created me to spread the gospel through writing, I know that’s not the only thing, but it is one thing. But how do I know? How do I know what God created me for? Well, that’s what today is about!

“By this, My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.”

John 15:8 NKJV

How to Gain Revelation About Your Purpose

Every Christian should have the desire to share the gospel with others. As I explained before, sharing the gospel is a part of our purpose. But, many may feel they don’t know how. John 15:8 says, “By this, My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.” As Christians, we are to bear fruit; I’m sure you’ve heard that phrase before, but what does it mean? The concept of bearing fruit appears many times in the Bible; here are a few meanings in Genesis 1:28, be fruitful in that context means to have children. In the context of the Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, bearing fruit means having evidence that you are of God. In Mark 11, Jesus comes across a fig tree with no figs, and as a result, He curses it. Why? Because it had no fruit, how is it a fig tree with no figs? It doesn’t make sense. Jesus views us the same way, we are Christians, Christ’s, so in our life, we are to have evidence that we are His. Now, how do we have proof that we are Christ? You can look at the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22, but we are talking about purpose here. So, bearing fruit in the context of purpose is something that people can see that tells them you are God’s. Again, for instance, this blog shows people I am God’s. This is my fruit that shows I am a Child of God. We will eventually get into the spiritual fruits, but for the sake of purpose, fruit is something we are doing that shows we are God’s children.

Don’t feel bad if you aren’t actively running a blog, posting videos on Instagram, or making a gospel album. Everyone’s fruit looks a little different, so we will get into that.

Pray and Ask

Luke 11:10 says, “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” So, when it comes to your God-given purpose, all you have to do is ask! God always has open ears to those who come to Him sincerely, and He is excited to answer your prayers! Here is a guided prayer when it comes to asking about your purpose. “God, I come to you asking why I’m on this Earth; what is it that you need me to do to build Your Kingdom? Show me what makes me perfect for this job, and give me the tools and resources needed to complete it in Jesus’ Name. Reveal my gifts and talents and how You’ll use them to Your glory. Show me Your purpose and plan for my life. Give me a plan and steps to build Your Kingdom as you designed me to, in Jesus’s Name, Amen!” I believe that praying or a variation of this prayer will give you your answer regarding your divine purpose. God gets excited when someone asks to be used by Him; that’s why He created you, so He can use you to His glory! I know I’ve prayed prayers like this and have been bombarded with information, and God is like, “you need to do this and this and do that and that,” and He gives me so much information concerning my purpose; I’m just in awe at times!

James 1:5 says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” God will give you all the wisdom needed to fulfill your purpose, so don’t be afraid to ask in prayer. Jesus told us to pray for laborers for the harvest; if you don’t know, laborers for the harvest, are the ones who lead people to Christ. We are supposed to be those laborers; we are to lead people to Christ. So, God will answer His servant, asking to be used to bring about His purpose! Now, I can’t tell you your answer because God is specific, but know that you were created to do something amazing for the Kingdom of God.

What Are You Naturally Passionate About?

This could be a great place to start regarding your purpose. Before God told me anything about writing books, having a blog, or anything else concerning my purpose, I already had a passion for writing. When I was twelve, I was in love with One Direction and would write what was called fan fiction. So, I would write those and post them on Instagram and spend hours writing. Naturally, as my passion for writing grew, I wrote regular short stories, then went to a couple summer writing courses at colleges, and entered into writing contests. The passion and talent were always there; it just wasn’t until 2021 that I started to use my talent for God. So, that is what I mean when I ask what are you naturally passionate about? What gets you excited? What is work but doesn’t feel like work? Bring that to God and ask how He could use it for His glory.

Listen to God

The most important thing to do when it comes to your purpose is to listen to God. I thought my purpose was plain and simple, “write books to spread the gospel,” but it’s much deeper than that, with so much more involved. I only know that because I have kept an open ear to God regarding my purpose. God is detailed and wants you to do everything He has created you for if you let Him. In Psalm 32:8, God says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” So, don’t be afraid to step out in faith and live in your God-given purpose! God’s got you every step of the way and will teach you what you need to know. God called you to preach in another country? Don’t worry, He’ll teach you the language. God called you to dance, but you can’t currently do a two-step, don’t worry; God will teach you His choreography. God is with you! Some people know their purpose but don’t walk in it because they are afraid, but know God is with you! Listen to what He says, and He will guide every step! To walk in purpose, you must be in tune with God, so stay close and keep an open ear!

Next week I will share how you live out your purpose, then build on that throughout the year! This is on my heart because God is pushing me to my full purpose, and I want you guys to come with me! So, be ready to walk in divine purpose this year and watch God completely change your life!
