Faith is only scary if you let it be. There is actually lots of evidence in the Bible that walking by faith doesn’t have to be scary at all and you should have great confidence! So, if you’re dealing with fear in your faith walk you’ve come to the right place! Let’s get started and see the reasons why you should have no fear!
Focus on God and Trust Him!

The number one thing that will lead to fear is not focusing your attention on God. You could be focusing on the past, on the uncertain future, what could or could not happen but God doesn’t want you to do that. Isaiah 26:3-4, says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You. Trust in the Lord forever, for in YAH, the Lord is everlasting strength”. The Bible promises us peace if we give God our undivided attention. So once our minds start wondering to things that aren’t God focused, that is when fear gets the opportunity to creep in. The second part of that verse is equally important, because as you trust in the Lord, He gives you His everlasting strength to be able to handle anything that comes your way. We are not supposed to rely on our own strength, and strength from God only comes when we trust Him.
Furthermore, in Isaiah 12:2, it says, “Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid, for YAH, the Lord, is my strength and song”. Here we can see that trust eliminates fear. When you trust God you are trusting in His character and His ability, which has never let anyone down. Based off knowing who God is, all fear should leave. There are so many examples of God’s character in the Bible that can build your faith, you can see that no matter the situation when someone put their full trust in God they won. And what have I said before? Faith is just trust in God! You cannot fear when you have the all powerful, almighty God on your side! It’s impossible! So if you’re struggling trusting God, go read up on His character all throughout the Bible, shoot start with Genesis! Because He is just that good! And once again, because of trust, we have strength through God. So, if you’re feeling weak in faith and just in life in general, let’s examine how much you are trusting God with your life right now. Are you still trying to control everything? Have you given Him all your burdens? Are you speaking in a way that demonstrates trust in God? These are all questions you should ask yourself when feeling weak in faith.
Faith cannot work without trust! Psalm 56:3-4 reads, “In God (I will praise His Word) In God I have put my trust; I will not fear, what can flesh do to me?” A common theme you should be recognizing is that trust cancels out fear! When you are confident in God and His character and that He will come through for you, nothing can come against your faith! That’s why it says what can flesh do to me? Nothing! Because I got the best God, the most faithful God, the most generous, loving, powerful God on my side! You’ll realize as you build trust in God, you start to get bold in your faith. You’ll believe for things you never had the courage to before, you’ll go places where you never dared to before, because you know as long as you trust God, He got you! It is freeing to trust God to this degree because fear can no longer hold you back! When negative thoughts come you just rebuke them because you know God has good plans for you! Jeremiah 17:7 says “blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, and whose hope is the Lord”, so just know you’re never headed down the wrong path when trusting God. The benefits of trusting God outweigh the potential “safety” of staying put in fear. Take a leap of faith and trust God to do wonders in your life and tell fear to leave! Our hope is the Lord and the Lord has never let anyone down!
The Bible says ‘be Anxious for Nothing’ and ‘Don’t Fear’
Furthermore, when it comes to fear, the Bible many times commands us not to fear or worry. Philippians 4:6 says “be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known to God”. One reason why you may feel fear is because you have never gone to God in prayer about it! God guarantees answered prayers all throughout the Bible, (I John 5:14-15, Mark 11:23, John 14:14), so there is no reason for us to worry or be anxious. We pray with thanksgiving because we know God is answering our prayer! You should have the kind of confidence that once you pray it is a done deal and whatever you asked for is already done! A reason why people worry so much is because they doubt their own prayers and don’t believe that God is going to answer them. So why pray at all if you don’t have full faith that it’s going to be answered! Just that one fix will eliminate fear in your faith walk, by believing that God is going to answer your prayer! The way I see it is, if I prayed it, I got it! So I don’t have to worry about a thing because I know God got me. And it all goes back to trust, you’re not worried about prayers not being answered if you trust God for who He is.
“Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God will be with you,”
I Chronicles 28:20
Additionally, in I Chronicles 28:20, it reads “And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God, my God, will be with you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord”. Once again, the Bible is telling us to not fear or be in distress. Besides prayer being a reason to not be fearful, just knowing that God is with you eliminates fear. As I was saying before trusting in God’s character and who He is gets rid of fear but the simple fact that God is just there, gets rid of all fear as well. Not only does He have your back but He is at your side, ready to guide you through it all! As long as you are doing God’s work, He is there with you every step of the way. People may abandon you and disappoint you, but God never will. The righteous are never forsaken, so God will never forsake you. Trust in God’s plan and with each milestone in your life, God is there to take you to the next one. So be strong! Be encouraged, because the Lord is on your side!
We Are to Expect Good Things!
Another reason to not fear is that as Christians we are to expect good things! Never in the bible does it say we should expect defeat, but we should always expect victory. We are to go from glory to glory, victory to victory, so you have to change your outlook on life and know that you didn’t get a lucky break! When one good thing happens, expect more because God constantly brings you up when you are righteous! I know it is easy to think, this one good thing happened but just wait until something bad happens, but Proverbs 10:28 says “The hope of the righteous will be gladness”. Our hope, our expectations will have a good outcome, they will make us glad! You’re only fearful because you are dreading a terrible outcome that wasn’t even promised by God. Look at what God promised, He said “do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old” (Isaiah 43:18). So don’t consider the disappointments, the failures, the sadness, but consider God’s word! Consider Psalm 23:6 that says “goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life”, consider John 16:33, that Jesus has “overcome the World”, consider John 10:10 where Jesus promises us “life and life more abundantly”. There are too many great promises in God’s word for you to be fearful. You are a child God and good things belong to you, so you need to rebuke fear, rebuke doubt and repeat to yourself the Word of the Lord until it is the only thing that occupies your mind. Don’t let the devil take away your blessing due to fear, show him the kind of God you serve by living by the Word!
I hope these were good reasons to not fear and will help you overcome any fears or doubts you may have in your own faith walk. Remember one thing, God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind (II Timothy 1:7), so just know that anytime fear comes it is of the devil. God wants you to prosper so He will never scare you out of a blessing, He will guide you to it, so I hope this helped and God bless!
