Welcome to Christianity 101, a beginner’s guide to the faith! Well, if you found yourself here, you either A, are already a Christian, B, want to know more about the faith and just browsing, or C, you’re lost and confused about how you got to a blog about Jesus Christ. And that’s all okay! All are welcome, and I’m excited you’re here, and more importantly, so is Jesus! If you’re just learning about the Christian faith, you’ve come to the right place!
What’s the Christianity 101? What’s the tea, the drama, and all the fuss about when it comes to Christian beliefs? People have their ideas of what Christianity is anyway but lack the understanding of the basics. That’s why I’m here! So, you can read and know what this religion is about and why it is important for all of humanity to know! Google defines Christianity as a religion based on the person and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth or its beliefs and practices. My definition of Christianity would be a religion where one cultivates a relationship with God through Jesus Christ, His Son. So, without further delay, here is an introduction to Christianity.
What is Christianity, and Why is it Important?
It is the one true religion, and it’s unique compared to all other religions worldwide. It is the only religion where the Deity died and sacrificed Himself for His people. No other religion can claim that. Also, all other religions acknowledge Jesus, but Christianity does not acknowledge the existence of any other real god. If you’ve ever been to Bible study or church, then you know that the Bible does mention other pagan gods that people worshipped. However, it is important to note that none of them even had a fraction of God’s power.
In this religion, there’s an emphasis on God’s love for humanity and you personally! He wants you to prosper, thrive, and have the best life possible! Despite what society may tell us, God is a wonderful God. It is the only religion where the deity claims fatherhood! Most people deny being the father, but God doesn’t! If He runs to get milk, He will return ;).
What is Christianity: A Relationship with Our Heavenly Father
God claims to be our Father, and we are His children, so there’s an intimate relationship that transcends any religion. It feels like home; it’s a safe space that also offers immense power through the Holy Spirit! What is the Holy Spirit? It is the Spirit of God Himself that came to earth to be our comforter, guide, and strength. He is the power God gave to us after Jesus ascended back into Heaven. It’s the only religion where the spirit of the Deity lives in us, which makes a living soooo much easier.
Other religions are work-based and are worked out of human will. Whereas with Christianity, we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ and His sacrifice on the cross. He is the one who lived a holy life, so we can see that example! You don’t have to be perfect, a leader, or in ministry, or know the Bible super well through a bunch of Bible studies, or have a great understanding of Biblical content. You don’t have to know all the basic beliefs for Christianity or even shop all the religious books and series off Amazon or count off your righteous deeds. God just wants you for you! Come to Him as you are, and He will accept you, but He won’t let you stay there either. He is going to bring you higher and elevate you as you develop a relationship with Him!
What was Wrong Anyways?
When talking about an intro to Christianity, we must know that in the beginning, actually, nothing was wrong. Everything was perfect in the Garden of Eden, the place God made for humankind to dwell when He created the Earth. God had full fellowship with Adam and Eve; He would walk with them in the cool of the day, and there was nothing hindering their perfect relationship! So what changed? Well, I’m sure most people know the part where the serpent convinced Eve to eat the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. She then gave it to her husband, and he ate it as well, and that’s when all hell broke loose, literally.
Why Couldn’t Adam and Eve Eat the Fruit?
God told Adam in Genesis 2:16-17, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”Adam had a direct commandment from God. One thing to know about Christianity, is if God tells us something, whether through the Bible or personally, we are to obey. When Eve ate the fruit of that tree, satan deceived her, but when Adam ate the fruit, he willfully disobeyed God’s commandment to not eat of that tree. Willful disobedience to God’s Word is a sin, so Adam committed the first sin and allowed it to enter the world.
After this act, there was now a barrier between man and God called sin. Wait, wait, wait, what the heck is even sin? Google says, “an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.” Which actually isn’t too far from the truth; sin is anything that is against God and His Word; there is a way to live according to the Bible, and disobedience to that is sin. As a result, sin doesn’t allow us to be as close to God as He wishes, but it drives us away and hardens our hearts toward God. God wanted the close, intimate fellowship back with humankind, hence, Jesus Christ! The Divine Son!
What is Christianity: God’s Purpose for Sending Jesus and an Introduction to the Faith
Why would God send His only begotten Son to die for you and me? Well, to get the faith 101 on that answer, it is in that oh-so-famous Bible verse, John 3:16. Which states, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” I’m sure you’ve heard this verse before, from your grandma, at the bottom of a Forever 21 bag, or as a tattoo. However, what does it really mean? This verse entirely encompasses why God sent Jesus to save us from the price of sin. Well, what is the price of sin? No Christian 101 book will give you this answer ;).
The Price of Sin
Romans 6:23 says, “The wages of sin is death.” So the cost of sin is death, and after that death, one goes to Hell. Well, God never intended for humankind to go to Hell. He intended for humanity to have a close relationship and fellowship with Him, but sin was getting in the way. So, God needed a solution to offer mankind an escape from the price of sin. God loves us so much and wants a relationship with us, but He can’t if sin stains us. So that’s where Jesus comes in.
Jesus Was the Perfect Sacrifice
Jesus is perfect; He has no blemish or sin separating Him from God; He is God in human form. Hebrews 4:15 says, “[Jesus] was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” It was vital to God that sin never tainted the person to be our sacrifice. The only person He knew who could successfully resist sin for His entire life was Jesus. Jesus is the purest being, making Him the perfect sacrifice for our sins. In the Old Testament, the sacrifice for sin was animals, but that blood wasn’t enough, so animal sacrifices happened often.
a Christianity introduction is understanding God needed something more powerful to cover man’s sins. Hebrews 9:12 says, “Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once and for all, having obtained eternal redemption.” God didn’t need the blood of Jesus more than once; the blood of Jesus is so powerful that His one sacrifice 2,000 years ago still covers the sins of people today and forever. That is why Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for sin because of the power of God in His blood.
Nothing More Is Required
Furthermore, because of the power the blood of Jesus holds, salvation requires nothing more than accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and believing His blood covers our sins forever. 2nd Corinthians 5:21 says, “For [God] made [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him,” So because Jesus took our sins for us, we can be pure, righteous, and holy beings as He is. We no longer have to succumb to our sins and temptations. Through the blood of Jesus, we have dominion over sin! It doesn’t matter what your past is, what you have done, or who you may be right now. The blood of Jesus washes that all away and makes you white as snow.
God Loves You
God loves you as you are but also wants to call you higher, and the first step to that is making Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior. So, if you have never been saved before or said the sinner’s prayer, I invite you now to do so. Say, “Dear Heavenly Father, I repent of my sins and turn my back to them. I give Jesus my whole life, heart, mind, and soul by faith; I believe Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for my sins, and I accept Him into my heart now. I believe Jesus is Lord. Amen!” The devil is a liar and false, so don’t believe his lies; believe who God says you are!
If you just prayed that prayer, If you said this prayer, go to the I Just Got Saved page for church recommendations, a Bible, and a journal! That was the basics of Christianity; I hope this introduction helped you learn some things about the faith and that you’re more interested in learning about Jesus! Make sure you follow the blog to get more faith tips and learn more about the basics of Christian faith! I hope this helped and God bless!
