How The Holy Spirit Empowers Believers: Igniting Your Potential

How-The-Holy-Spirit-Empowers-Believers-Igniting-Your-Potential

Igniting your potential is knowing that the Holy Spirit empowers believers! That might seem like a foreign concept to you, but you have power and lots of it! The Holy Spirit is never going to leave us helpless. We can be victorious in every situation! The devil’s greatest tactic is making Christians believe they are powerless and can do nothing. However, that is far from the truth; the power we hold through God’s Holy Spirit ensures we can overcome all of the enemy’s power! The Holy Spirit empowers you, so let’s get into how He does it :)!

Holy Spirit Empowers You Through Discernment

When you’re newly saved, entering into the spiritual side of life doesn’t have to be complicated. Thanks to the Holy Spirit, we receive upon salvation; you now can see into the spiritual side of things! And one of the ways the Holy Spirit empowers us to do that is through spiritual discernment. What is spiritual discernment? Well, you ever said, “Something told me to…” Well, that something 99% of the time is the Holy Spirit warning you! Discernment is the Holy Spirit guiding us toward the right choices, whether it be through a warning or us asking Him for direction.

John 16:13 says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears, He will speak,” The Holy Spirit will always guide you toward what is right and toward Christ! So, one of the easiest things to discern, as He is the Spirit of truth, is lying. If you know anything about God, God hates lying, and I mean HATES lying. The devil is the father of lies (John 8:44), so as Christians, we don’t want to be associated with lying in any kind of way.

Identifying Deception in Daily Life

As a new Christian, you’ll realize your spirit will feel “off” when someone is deceitful. There’s no special way to ‘tap’ into this gift rather than just being sensitive to the Spirit. Which is continually inquiring Him about everything you come across. 1 John 4:1-6 says, “Beloved, do not trust every spirit but test the spirits to see whether they belong to God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” There are plenty of false prophets who will swear up and down they are from God, especially on social media. New Christians can fall into this trap as they don’t know much but always inquire the Holy Spirit. He will always tell you what is right and what’s not.

As you grow closer to God, the quicker you’ll realize that the majority of things in this world are demonic. The devil is the god of this world (II Corinthians 4:4), so we must test everything and everyone to see if it is from God. Let’s get into some practical steps on how to test every spirit.

Pray

The first thing we’re going to do is pray. This doesn’t have to be formal because you may have to test a spirit during a conversation, work, school, at the gym, or wherever! So, in a whisper or even in your head, ask God, “Is this of you?” “Should I listen to this advice?” or “Can I trust this person?” Those three questions will give you an answer as to whether something is of God. If it concerns a person, say a new friend, potential boyfriend/girlfriend, spouse, or mentor, here’s a prayer to pray.

“God, if this person is meant to be a part of my life and will help bring about Your will, I pray you reveal that to me. If this person is not from you and will take me out of Your will, reveal that to me and give me the strength to cut them off,” This prayer is one that God answers very quickly because He doesn’t want you to slip! Now, it is your responsibility to cut them off and continue in God’s will.

Test it Against the Bible

As I previously mentioned, there are plenty of false prophets. However, let’s look to the Bible to see what it says about prophecy. According to I Corinthians 14:3, “[Prophecy] strengthens others, encourages them, and comforts them.” So, anytime you hear someone prophesy and claim it is a word from God, it should leave you feeling stronger in the Lord, encouraged, and comforted. If you feel condemned, ashamed, or afraid and anxious, it is not from God. Prophecy should never involve fear-mongering or shaming others. We should always feel better and more enlightened about God.

You must know your Bible because when you hear something from anyone, you should be able to pull up a Bible verse that either confirms or denies their words. A rule of thumb is, if it goes against the Bible, disregard the information. You don’t want to be outside of God’s will, so as a new believer, it is pivotal that you take your Bible study time seriously. Knowing the word is how the Holy Spirit empowers us. Remember, He reminds us of the things Jesus said, and those things He said are in the Bible!

Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Be Humble

When it comes to spiritual discernment, we must be humble. It takes humility to ask the Holy Spirit whether something is right or wrong. Sometimes, we want to rely on our intuition or trust someone just because we’ve known them for so long. But you cannot live that way as a Christian. You have a new life through Christ where you must run everything by Him. Saying Jesus is Lord means allowing Christ to lead, not you. Let’s learn from David, a man after God’s own heart.

Psalms‬ ‭19:14 says, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.” We need to constantly ask God to lead us to what is acceptable in His sight, not ours. We need even to check ourselves and ensure we are in God’s will. Discernment is not just for advice from others but also for daily guidance. You must discern what’s good for you and what’s not through the Holy Spirit. Make your decisions based on what is acceptable to God.

Go to God, Always!

The Holy Spirit only empowers us through humility. We cannot walk in the spirit while also walking in pride and selfish ambition. Spiritual discernment only works by continually humbling yourself to ask the Holy Spirit for guidance in every decision you make! And to actually listen, because if the Holy Spirit tells you someone is lying and you decide to take their advice anyway, that’s pride. If He tells you not to go somewhere because it isn’t safe, and you still go, that’s pride!

James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.” You can only prosper through humility. Be humble if you want any success or peace in life. Doors will open for you just because you are humble. Never get to a point where you think you’re too good for God’s instruction. You cannot be spiritually discerned with that attitude. You must continually yield to Him and follow His advice. He will never lead you astray but always toward Jesus!

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Be Healed

The Holy Spirit empowers believers to heal and to be healed themselves! Nothing can overtake our bodies as we hold the Spirit of Christ inside us. No sickness or disease can destroy us, and there is no sickness or disease that we cannot cast out. The Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome and cast out every sickness and disease through faith!

Mark 16:17 says, “And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” One thing people misunderstand when it comes to healing is that we can still be healed today! They think laying on of hands and healing was only for the early church. However, that is sooo wrong; we can lay hands and heal people and be healed ourselves!

If the Holy Spirit can empower us to do that, don’t you think you can be healed yourself? One thing you must know about the Holy Spirit is that He doesn’t share His temple with anyone. And who is His temple? Me and you! So, the next time you’re sick, remember that the Holy Spirit empowers us to take hold of our healing. So, how do you do that? I’m glad you asked.

Speak the Scriptures

When you need to take hold of your healing, use the scriptures. There are plenty of verses in the Bible that guarantee your healing! Here are a few:

1 Peter 2:24:” ‘He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed.”

Isaiah 40:29: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.”

Jeremiah 17:14: “Heal me, Lord, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.”

Start memorizing these scriptures and learning more about healing so you can come against anything and everything that tries to make you ill. The devil will try to steal your health because if you’re sick, you cannot be productive for God and His kingdom. So, come against sickness with all your being because the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy. If he can get you sick, he can kill you and destroy your life, family, and everything God has destined for you.

We are Not Meant to be Sick

James 5:14-15 says, “Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: and the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven.”

James asked if anyone in the church was sick because it was rare for anyone to be sick in the first place. Additionally, if they were, the people in the church had the power to pray over the sick and for them to be healed. We have that same power through the Holy Spirit. So, use your words to cast out sickness and have faith in the power God gave us! We are to live victorious in every circumstance, no matter what. Don’t allow the enemy to steal your health and then steal your life. You have power through the Holy Spirit, so it’s time to use it.

He Heals Broken Hearts

A great thing about the Holy Spirit is that He comforts us. Not only does He heal the sick but also the brokenhearted. Psalm 147:3 says, “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” No matter where the heartbreak is from, a breakup, or the death of a loved one, or whatever it may be, the Holy Spirit empowers us to overcome those challenges. We don’t have to stay heartbroken; we can be healed and restored through God’s word and guidance!

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to be Free from Mental Anguish

We don’t have to be victims of depression, anxiety, or fear, but rather free through Jesus Christ’s Spirit! II Corinthians 3:17 says, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Get intuned with the Spirit and experience the freedom of God in your everyday life! We no longer have to be gripped by these emotions that can be crippling to our lives.

II Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” Anytime you encounter fear, know that it is from the enemy. Fear is always used to cripple us and stop us from moving forward. If you allow fear into your life, you will never move forward or do what God has called you to do. It is a powerful tactic of the enemy, but you must know that the Holy Spirit is stronger! The same power that Christ has resides in us! So, let’s get into how to overcome fear, depression, and anxiety.

Know the Word of God

You must know the word of God and what it says about us. As mentioned in II Timothy 1:7, God gives us the spirit of power and love, and that’s how we must operate as Christians. Fear, depression, and anxiety keep us weak and paralyzed in life. Too afraid, sad, and anxious to take the next steps or take the leap of faith God needs for His will to be done. If you want to see God’s will take place in your life, it is essential that you know these emotions are not of God. They are sent to stop what God has called you to do. The devil always has an agenda. You’re not sad just because you’re sad because the devil wants to use that to destroy you.

Isaiah 26:3 says, “You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.” The way we keep our minds on God is by meditating on His word. His Word tells us that we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37); we can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13); He can do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think through the power of the Holy Spirit that works in us (Ephesians 3:20). Knowing His word will help you combat negative thoughts that lead to fear, depression, and anxiety. Recite encouraging verses like these all throughout the day so you build up your spirit and not fall victim to the enemy’s plan.

God is With You

Being mindful of the Holy Spirit and knowing what He empowers us to do, helps us come to the reality that God is ALWAYS with us! Josuha 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” The Holy Spirit empowers us to be strong and reminds us that God never leaves our side. Once you fully realize that and know that’s your reality, it gets harder for fear, depression, and anxiety to take hold of you.

Psalm 16:11 says, “You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” If God is always with us, then we are continually in His presence, which is full of joy! Start meditating on the Bible and allow God’s word to fill you with joy and encouragement. You are stronger than anything that comes against you because you are a child of God. You are chosen, you are powerful, and you are greatly loved! God has a great purpose for you, and you cannot allow the devil to steal it. You have no idea who you can bless by just doing what God has called you to do!

It doesn’t have to be difficult to overcome these emotions, no matter how intense they are. The Word of God is your weapon, and we must know how to use it in all circumstances.

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Fight Against Spiritual Warfare

As I previously mentioned, the devil wants to destroy us. However, we cannot let him! If you’re a new believer, you may confused by the term spiritual warfare. Spiritual warfare is any kind of attack in an attempt to draw you away from Jesus and destroy your life. II Corinthians 10:4 says, “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,” The Holy Spirit Empowers us to fight spiritual battles and be victorious! This life is wayyy more spiritual than people think, and we must realize our fight isn’t against people but the devil.

It is important to note that Jesus gave us authority through His Spirit. As long as the Holy Spirit resides in us, we have the power to overcome the devil and his schemes. Luke 10:19 says, “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” Did you read that right? Nothing, and I mean nothing, is allowed to harm us as believers. We have authority over everything and don’t have to be victim to defeat. So, no sickness, depression, fear, anxiety, witch, warlock, demon, or any dark power, has permission to hurt you!

Understand the Authority of Christ

Since we have the Holy Spirit, we have authority. The Holy Spirit isn’t only here to guide us but to give us the power that allows us to be victorious in every circumstance. Understanding authority comes with understanding the Holy Spirit who lives in you! I John 4:4 says, “But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” We have to know that Christ’s Spirit inside us is greater than anything we face! And it’s better the sooner you grasp this because spiritual warfare tends to be the heaviest when you first get saved.

Spiritual warfare is the reason many people backslide and go back to their old ways. However, it is more of a test than anything else. I Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” You are strong, and you can handle whatever temptation is coming against you! Once you receive Christ, you are not the old you; you are a new creation. You have His Spirit, who empowers you to use the Word of God to overcome temptation.

You Are Victorious

Don’t be discouraged when temptation comes, but be encouraged that you are strong enough to handle it and be victorious. As new believers, it is pivotal to know how strong the Holy Spirit makes you. You do not have to go back to your old ways; you can be holy and righteous. You are no longer a sinner but the righteousness of God (II Corinthians 5:21). So, let’s get into how to effectively fight against the devil. The sooner you understand this, the easier your life will be as a Christian. You can be victorious no matter what!

The Armor of God

Ephesians 6 perfectly lays out how we are to deal with the devil’s attacks, so let’s take a look at the passage.

Ephesians 6:11-17 says, “Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

I know it was a lot, but let’s break it down.

What is the Armor of God

The armor of God is how we are to conduct ourselves in times of spiritual warfare. It is the ways the Holy Spirit empowers us to be victorious in battle and never lose! You must fight in the spirit because fighting in the flesh only guarantees failure. It is what keeps us firm against all the attacks of the enemy, whether it be in the form of temptation, sickness, fear, depression, anxiety, spells casted, demonic dreams, visits, or opposition. So, take this as an opportunity to take notes so that the next time you’re faced with temptation or a spiritual attack, you know what to do.

Belt of Truth and Body Armor of God’s Righteousness

Remember when I told you in John 16:13 it tells us that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth? Or when I mentioned that we can only be holy through the Holy Spirit. In times of spiritual warfare, get a hold of the Holy Spirit. He will empower you to know the truth when the devil is lying to you and also to remain righteous in those moments. It can be tempting to give into our flesh, but we must remember that the Spirit of Christ lives in us, which is greater than any spirit of the enemy.

Inquire of the Holy Spirit for His discernment about every situation you face. He will lead you to the truth. He will remind you of what the Bible says and also empower you to uphold the commandments of God. You do not have to fall if you put on the belt of truth and the armor of God’s righteousness. Righteousness is its own reward and will protect you, and if you’re confused on what righteousness is, just know this, it is following the will of God according to the Bible. Being in right standing with God because you obey Him and follow the leading of His Holy Spirit.

Peace That Comes from the Good News

Did you know that the devil has a terrible future, but as a child of God, you don’t! The Good News is the fact that Jesus Christ died for our sins and forgave us, and we now have the promise of eternal life. The devil, on the other hand, has a promise of 1,000 years in the lake of fire and eternal damnation. So, during spiritual warfare, you can have peace knowing that Jesus came and defeated death, hell, and the grave for you. Have peace knowing that Jesus offers you eternal life and you have a bright future. There is nothing the devil can do to take that away; you always, even if you slip, have the opportunity to come back, repent, and have eternal life be your future.

The devil can’t repent, so with knowing that, have peace that you always have that option. The devil is defeated forever, and that is part of the Good News that Jesus overcame all and gave that power to you. There is nothing the devil can do that is more powerful than the power of Christ. You have that power inside you through the Holy Spirit, so be at peace, knowing God’s love and that you have eternal life through Jesus.

Shield of Faith

Faith is what’s going to get us through every single trial. One of the enemy’s best tactics is trying to convince us that God’s word isn’t true and that God isn’t a man of His word. However, that is a lie. No matter what happens in our lives, we must trust God and His plan over everything. If we allow ourselves to doubt God and lose faith, we’ve given the enemy the victory. So, stand on the Word of God and build your faith and trust in God. He will never leave you nor forsake you; the Bible doesn’t lie, and you must stand on that.

Your faith in God is your shield against the enemy; your “I trust God no matter what” is what is going to protect you during times of spiritual warfare. It is literally a shield because everything the devil throws at you will fall to the ground because you have unbreakable faith in God. Having faith in God is knowing His character, His word, and His power! God never disappoints, so whatever the devil may say to you, take up your shield of faith and block it. Take up your “But the Word says,” “God is faithful no matter what,” and “I trust in God more than anything,” That is faith, and that will shut down the enemy’s darts.

Salvation Helmet

Spiritual warfare can make us feel as if we’re going crazy, but we must trust in the salvation of the Lord. More than just being saved and having eternal salvation, we have to understand that the Lord promises to save us in every circumstance. Psalm 34:6 says, “In my desperation, I prayed, and the Lord listened; He saved me from all my troubles.”

A helmet protects your head; in a spiritual sense, I believe it protects your mind. So, knowing that no matter what God will save you from all your troubles allows you to have peace. It protects you from the mental anguish of “what could happen,” there is no what if, only what will. And your ‘what will’ is that God will deliver you. So, you don’t have to fret and worry about all the possible outcomes because the only outcome is the Lord saving you. Salvation means deliverance, so know that because you are a child of God, He will deliver you from all harm and ruin. You can have peace of mind.

Sword of the Spirit

The Word of God is your ultimate weapon and it is impossible to put on the armor of God without a good understanding of the Bible. John 1:1 tells us, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Verse 18 says, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” The word is Jesus, and the sooner you realize that the more real and powerful the Bible becomes to you. Every time you speak the Word of God, you are directly bringing Jesus into your situation.

It is vital to know the word and know how to use it in battle. In Matthew 4, when the devil tempted Jesus in the wilderness, He always responded with, “It is written,” until the devil left Him alone. You must speak and use your weapon, which is the Bible. Memorize scriptures and in times of spiritual warfare, recite it out loud. It is important to know verses for protection, casting out evil spirits, righteousness in Christ, peace, and authority. Study your Bible and know it like the back of your hand. You must know what is allowed and what is NOT allowed in your life.

Lack of Knowledge

Hosea 4:6 says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” So many Christians are defeated because they do not know the Word. Don’t be like them; know your Christ-given authority, how the Holy Spirit empowers you, your covenant, and your rights as a believer. You live as a Christian is nothing without the Word. Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.”

The Word is alive, and you must use it, speak it, and make it work for your life! The devil can destroy everything you have if you don’t know the Word. The only way you can be victorious and put on the armor of God in the first place is by reading your Bible and meditating on it.

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Be Prosperous

To a softer topic, but also controversial depending on who you’re talking to, prosperity! Did you know that the Holy Spirit empowers us to be prosperous, and God doesn’t want us to be broke? Yes! God wants us to prosper in everything we do, and the Holy Spirit guides us on how to achieve that prosperity.

Deuteronomy 8:18 says, “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” How do you create wealth? The way this is done involves many factors. The first one is in Matthew 6:33, which says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” If you want any kind of wealth, seek God and the advancement of His kingdom first.

Advance the Kingdom

The Holy Spirit is the one who will give us those ideas on how to advance the kingdom. For me, He gave the idea of this blog, my Instagram, YouTube, Pinterest, and TikTok, and that is how I am advancing the kingdom. And if you know anything about blogging and social media, you know that it can be a good source of income.

The thing with this is that you must put God first; you cannot do things for the love of money but for the love of God. I don’t do this blog because I know blogs can make you money; I do this blog because I want to share the gospel. It being a profitable outlet is just a plus, I would do this whether I getting paid or not. I’m not monetized on this blog yet, so I’m literally doing this just because I want to.

That is important when it comes to prosperity. You have to check your heart because we cannot serve money and God (Matthew 6:24). However, as you work for God, He will ensure you are successful and have everything you need. So, ask the Holy Spirit, what can you do for the kingdom of God? We have the mind of Christ, the Holy Spirit has endless suggestions on what you can do, and also have a way for them to be profitable as well.

The Holy Spirit Empowers Us to Be Generous

You cannot talk about prosperity without talking about tithe and offering. Many people will neglect giving, but that’s how you stay broke, so I would rather not. I give every chance I get because I’m gonna get my blessing. If you’re new to the faith, a tithe is 10% of your income or whatever comes in, and I mean whatever; if your grandma gives you money, tithe the 10%. For instance, if you get $100 from gma, you give God $10. And “Giving God” $10 is through giving to a church but you must be careful of what church you give to.

Not every ministry bears the same fruit. A good rule of thumb is to give to a church that cares about reaching the lost and is actively doing things to reach the lost. Also, churches that believe in prosperity believe Christians shouldn’t be broke. I give to a lot of different ministries, and I can say that God is certainly multiplying and giving it back to me!

How We Should Give as Believers

II Corinthians 9:7 says, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” You must decide with your heart what to give and who lives in your heart? The Holy Spirit! As believers, the Holy Spirit lives inside us and will tell us what to give when prompted. Additionally, we must give with a cheerful heart because did you know that messes up your blessing if you don’t give with a cheerful heart?

To get a harvest, we must be cheerful, and the Holy Spirit empowers us to give cheerfully and abundantly. There have been times when I wanted to hold onto my money, but the Holy Spirit told me to give, and I did. It wasn’t my flesh but my spirit that obeyed God. So, it takes the Holy Spirit to give in a biblical sense. Know this, the money will return!

God’s Got a Blessing

Malachi 3:10 says, “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” God has got a blessing with your name on it when you give. So, it is pivotal that we listen to the Holy Spirit when it comes to our money. It is the only way we will ever see true prosperity!

A Call to Salvation

If you made it to the end of this blog post, it was by no mistake. God has you here for a reason, and I think it is to cultivate a relationship with Him. If anything in this post tugged on your heart and you know that you need to get right with God, say this prayer.

“Dear Heavenly Father, I repent of my sins, turn my back to them, and ask for Your forgiveness. I believe Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for my sins and rose on the third day. I accept Him into my heart now; I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart Jesus is Lord. By faith, I give Him my whole life, heart, mind, and soul. Amen!” If you said this prayer, go to the I Just Got Saved page for church recommendations, a Bible, and a journal!

I hope this helped, and God bless!
