The Greatest Things About Resurrection Sunday

The-Greatest-Things-About-Resurrection-Sunday

Holy Week has ended, so I wanted to write about the greatest things about Resurrection Sunday and what made this past Sunday so special! The story didn’t end on Good Friday, and I thank God! Jesus’ sacrifice offered us eternal life, but also sooo many more blessings! So, let’s get into the greatest things about Resurrection Sunday!

Women Found the Empty Tomb

I love the curiosity and huge hearts women have! Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Mary Magdalene were the ones who first came to the empty tomb. Not any of His disciples. No shade, of course ;). But I love this because it demonstrates a woman’s dedication. They came to anoint His body with oil and spices. The disciples were hiding because they feared they would be next on the hit list since they’d been with Jesus.

In John, it says that they came while it was still dark, so we know it was early in the morning. We should all yearn to have that dedication to the Lord, to rise early to see how He’s doing, and to foster our personal relationship with Him. I want a heart for the Lord like this, one that is so concerned, to rise early before dawn to see how He’s doing.

This must’ve been difficult for Mary and Mary Magdelene, as Jesus was one’s Son and the other’s Teacher. Yet, they mustered up the strength to still go and see His grave despite the pain it may cause. In Mark 16:3, “They said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?”

Divine Intervention

When Mary and Mary Magdalene asked that question, an angel rolled away the stone. God did not hesitate when they asked that question. He immediately helped them so they could see the empty tomb. You don’t have to wait years and years for your answer; it can come immediately. God’s supernatural power and ability make it so we can see miracles instantly! Also, Jesus said ask you shall receive. So, open your mouth and ask God to intervene on your behalf, and you will get the answers you seek!

When Mary and Mary Magdalene saw the empty tomb, they didn’t remember all the times Jesus mentioned being resurrected. Instead, Mary Magdalene began to weep. Though, at the time, nobody fully understood what Jesus was talking about when it came to His death, you would think it would click at this moment. Her emotions about the situation overruled her memory.

Don’t allow your emotions to overthrow your memory. Despite your current situation, what God said is still coming to pass, or it already has, and you just have to wait for the natural manifestation. Don’t look down at what appears to be taking place around you. God is still faithful, still good, all-powerful, and miracle-working! He hasn’t changed, so if He said He was going to do it, He’s going to do it! Jesus said He would be back on the third day and that He was!

Women Spread The Good News on Resurrection Sunday!

In John 20:13-16, “An angel said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ She said to them, ‘Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him.’ Now, when she said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, not knowing that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?’ She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, ‘Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away.’ Jesus said to her, ‘Mary!’ She turned and said to Him, ‘Rabboni!’ (which is to say, Teacher).“

Sometimes, your answer is right in front of you without realizing it! God did say, “Seek and you shall find,” so expect to come face to face with your miracle! Mary was seeking Jesus, and she saw Him! Your situation is not as bleak as it seems; Jesus is right there with the necessary solution! They thought Jesus was dead and that someone had taken His body; the whole time, He rose and was right by the tomb! You may feel like it’s the end of the world or that everything is crumbling, but let me tell you, Jesus has already done the miraculous for you! Continue to seek Him and obey, and you will find everything you need in Christ!

Tell My Disciples

John 20:17 says, ”Jesus said to her, ‘Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father and to My God and your God.’’So, Mary went to tell the disciples and those who had been with Jesus that she saw Him in the flesh! However, they didn’t believe her. Though they didn’t believe her, I know the joy she felt from seeing Jesus resurrected superseded any discouragement. We have to allow the joy of the Lord to overshadow any discouragement and doubt, remain firm in our faith and have 100% confidence in the Word of God no matter what!

When you stand firm in your faith and know with your entire being that what God told you is true, it’s hard for doubt and discouragement to sneak in. And it makes it so much easier to continue spreading the Gospel. So, be confident in what God said and move forward with what He told you to do! He told you so that you can bless people and be a light. It doesn’t matter if others don’t believe you; what did God say? You keep going because you’re not done with your assignment until He says you are.

The Great Commission

One of the greatest things about Resurrection Sunday is the Great Commission. The Great Commission is our mission and purpose as Christians. It is our basis for navigating life, how we use our gifts and talents, and how we are a light to this dark world!

Mark 16:14-18 says, ”Later [Jesus] appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen. And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Believe Before You See

Before I get into the Great Commission, I want to touch on the part of this verse that says Jesus had to rebuke their unbelief. Though the disciples were often told that Jesus rose, they still didn’t believe. However, as Christians, we are always charged to believe before we see. We walk by faith, not by sight, so we can’t decide we no longer believe in God just because we didn’t see something. It is not supposed to start that way!

John 11:40 says, ”Jesus said to [Mary], “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” Notice how Jesus said to believe first and then you see the glory of God? We will never see the glory of God if we rely on sight. The only thing you get from relying on sight is your flesh and what you can do by your strength. I don’t know about you, but I would much rather depend on God’s strength! The impossible can only occur when we involve God, so if you seek miracles, believe God!

We must believe first; that’s the whole point of Christianity. We serve a God we’ve never seen with our natural eyes, yet we believe He forgave our sins and offered us eternal life in a Heaven we’ve never seen! To be a Christian, you have to believe without seeing. And if you believe without seeing, you will see God’s glory! So, hold onto your faith and know God is good and a Man of His Word. His Word doesn’t return to Him void, and He doesn’t allow His faithfulness to fail!

As the Father Sent Me, I Send You

Let’s return to the Great Commission, which Mark 16:15-18 says is “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

Signs and Wonders

As Christians, we are commissioned to spread the Gospel to every living creature! That isn’t just for pastors and evangelists; it is for everyone who has claimed Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior! The greatest thing about this is that it shows us our power through Christ. Signs and wonders are to follow the believer, so if a person lacks miracles in their life, he/she are not believing! Because when you believe, you see the glory of God!

I’m not saying that someone who doesn’t experience miracles regularly isn’t saved, but they certainly lack faith. When you’re a child of God, you should experience a pattern of goodness, mercy, and favor in your life. Things should always work out for your good! So, let’s start changing our mindset and speaking the Word of God. You are a child of God; good things are coming to you! You are not permitted to lack, fail, be sick, depressed, or anxious; you are free from all of the enemy’s power! As a matter of fact, you have power over it!

Authority and Power Given to Us on Resurrection Sunday

The last section of this verse says, “In My name, they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Take this verse literally as a child of God. As God fills you with the Holy Spirit, you will speak in new tongues, you can pick up serpents, if you drink something deadly, it will not harm you, and you will heal the sick when you lay hands on them.

Even in a spiritual sense, with serpents, we know that serpents represent the enemy. If you can pick something up, that indicates that you are stronger than that thing or person. The same thing applies here: you are stronger than the devil when you have Christ. In Matthew 28:18-19, Jesus says the Great Commission in this way, ”And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on Earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,“

Same Authority As Christ

We can fulfill the Great Commission because we have the same authority as Christ. When He went to Heaven, He gave us His power so we could continue His work. You can defeat the enemy when he tries to make an appearance in your life. If the devil could never overpower Jesus, then he cannot overpower you! You are not a victim, you are a victor through Christ.

We are more than conquerors through Christ! You have power, and it’s time to use it! Don’t allow the enemy to run you around; use the name of Jesus and cause him to flee! He is nothing compared to the power of Christ. Through the Great Commission, Jesus gave us a purpose, power, and authority over the devil! And because Jesus ascended to heaven, we can do greater works than He did on Earth!

Jesus Ascends to God’s Right Hand on Resurrection Sunday

Can we do greater works than Jesus did on Earth? Yes! John 14:12 says, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.“ Because Jesus is in Heaven, He is more powerful than He was on Earth because no more flesh hinders Him. While Jesus was on Earth, He dealt with temptation, fleshly desires, and everything we go through, but thankfully, He overcame them all by the Spirit!

In heaven, however, there are no flesh desires and temptations, so He has no hindrance to His power! On Earth, He had to hold back in some instances, but now, there is no holding back! Since Christ ascended, He gave us the Holy Spirit. This means there is no hindrance to Christians because Heavenly power is available to us. In the Gospels, we see the disciples many times struggling to cast out demons or heal, but now it can come with ease. Why? Because of the Holy Spirit who gives us all strength! Who gives us the ability to put our flesh into submission just like Jesus did and live victoriously with signs and wonders.

The Book of Acts is for Today

Jesus going back to heaven is one of the greatest things about Resurrection Sunday. Mark 16:19-20 says, ”[Jesus] was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.“ If Jesus had never ascended into heaven, we would not have the power of the Holy Spirit available to us! Now, there is boldness and courage available through the Holy Spirit. Something the disciples did not have before, the supernatural power of Christ living inside of them, which we see in the book of Acts. Peter wasn’t denying Jesus anymore, if you know, you know ;). In Acts, we see the disciples go out and preach everywhere, which wouldn’t be possible if Jesus didn’t ascend.

The great power of the Holy Spirit was not only for the disciples. It is for the believer today, and if we truly believe in Jesus and His purpose on Earth, we would believe that His power is available for us now! It is not a thing of the past; if it were, then Jesus’ sacrifice would not be as meaningful. What makes the resurrection so impactful is that it offers everlasting power from generation to generation. Jesus was a one-time sacrifice for an eternal victory. So, you must know that today, you have power over the devil, and you can live a life full of signs and wonders!

Resurrection Sunday is the Center of Our Faith!

If Jesus had not risen from the dead, the Christian faith would be void. The whole reason this faith exists is because Jesus got up! More than that, He rose with all power in His hands and delegated that power to us. We need to be more aware of the resurrection power that lives inside us as Christians. Nothing is impossible to us because nothing is impossible to Jesus! We can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us, because of the miracle that took place on Resurrection Sunday!

Jesus Took the Keys of Hell, Death, and the Grave on Resurrection Sunday

Revelation 1:18 says, ”I am the living one. I died, but look—I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and the grave.“ Jesus holds the power over everything that could’ve defeated us. As He rose with all power, the fear and power of death were destroyed because, through belief in Him, there is no death but eternal life! There is no power of the enemy anymore because of Jesus! The greatest thing about Resurrection Sunday is the power and victory offered to us through Christ!

We don’t have to fear the devil or death anymore; Jesus dealt with everything that could destroy us! Everything, I tell you, everything. There is nothing that is not under Christ because of this day! We are forgiven and have eternal life because of Resurrection Sunday, so you don’t have to be a victim of your past! You can live free and full of authority. What the enemy meant for evil, God was able to use for good, and that doesn’t only stand true with Jesus, but it stands true with you!

No matter what the enemy has thrown at you, you can bounce back because there is a Risen Savior with the power to transform your life. As you give your life to Him, that power will live inside you, giving you the ability to kick the devil’s tail yourself! You don’t have to live in the same cycles; when Christ got up, He did it all! Destroyed every addiction, sickness, anger issue, sexual immortality, depressed and anxious thought, and demonic power; He destroyed it all! All you have to do is say yes!

An Invitation

So, if you want eternal life, which Jesus provided through Resurrection Sunday, say this prayer: “Dear Heavenly Father, I repent of my sins and turn my back to them; I believe Jesus is the Son of God and that He died on the cross for my sins and rose on the third day. I accept Him into my heart now; I confess with my mouth and believe with my heart Jesus is Lord. By faith, I give Him my whole life, heart, mind, and soul. Amen!” If you said this prayer, go to the I Just Got Saved page for church recommendations, a Bible, and a journal! I hope this helped, and God bless!

Jesus died for you, and God raised Him so you can have power and victory in life! Don’t spend one more day living defeated. Step into the miraculous that Jesus made available for you and trample over the devil in your life and in the ones around you! We’re going to get into authority this week, so stay tuned! You are a winner and a conqueror through Jesus; be blessed!
